About Sumora
A practice built on the belief that most financial questions deserve more time and less noise.

How Sumora began
Sumora was established in Kuala Lumpur after its founders noticed a gap that formal financial services did not fill: many working adults and young families understood, in a general way, that they should be thinking more carefully about their household finances — but they did not have a clear, calm space in which to do so. Most available resources were either product-led or assumed a level of prior knowledge that made entry difficult.
The name Sumora draws on the Malay word suara — voice — and reflects the practice's intention to give each household its own clear picture of where it stands, spoken plainly. The office opened in Heritage Tower on Jalan Raja Laut in early 2022, and the first sessions were offered as a pilot to a small group of colleagues and referred contacts.
Since then, the practice has grown steadily through referrals and word of mouth. Sumora has worked with individuals beginning their first considered look at personal finance, with households navigating the particular financial pressures of early parenthood, and with couples approaching their forties who wanted a thorough review before making medium-term decisions about property, education costs, and retirement contributions.
The practice does not sell financial products and is not affiliated with any bank, fund manager, or insurance provider. This independence is central to the way sessions are structured.
Mission
What we are here to do
Sumora's mission is to help Malaysian adults and families develop a clear, accurate understanding of their own financial position — so that any decisions they make going forward rest on a solid foundation, not on anxiety or incomplete information.
Values
What guides our sessions
- Patience. No question is too basic. No situation is too ordinary to deserve careful attention.
- Independence. We do not recommend products or accept commissions from third parties.
- Brevity. Every summary document is short enough to read in one sitting and be returned to over many months.
- Discretion. Household financial information is treated with the same care as a private conversation.

How we maintain quality and trust
Qualified facilitators
All Sumora session facilitators hold relevant qualifications in financial planning or adult education, and maintain continued professional development through accredited programmes.
Confidentiality by design
Client financial information is never shared with third parties. All documents prepared during an engagement are provided only to the participating household and retained only as long as necessary.
No product affiliation
Sumora is independently operated and does not accept referral fees, commissions, or incentives from financial product providers. Our only source of income is the session fees paid directly by clients.
Structured session formats
Each session follows a prepared format reviewed annually. This ensures consistency across different facilitators and that nothing important is missed, regardless of how the conversation develops.
Post-session follow-up
Clients are welcome to send follow-up questions after any session. We aim to respond to written questions within two working days, and brief clarification calls are included at no additional cost.
Malaysia-specific content
All session materials are regularly updated to reflect current EPF and PRS regulations, Takaful structures, and any relevant changes to Malaysian tax treatment of savings and investments.
Financial education grounded in Malaysian life
Malaysian households manage a particular set of financial instruments and obligations that do not feature in most international personal finance resources. EPF contribution planning, PRS supplementary retirement savings, mandatory Zakat considerations for eligible households, Takaful versus conventional insurance choices — each of these deserves an explanation calibrated to Malaysian conditions, not adapted from a framework written for a different market.
Sumora's sessions are built specifically for this context. When we walk through a household's savings position, we start from the EPF statement. When we discuss insurance adequacy, we look at what Takaful coverage exists and whether it aligns with the household's current obligations. When we touch on medium-term savings for education, we consider available instruments including SSPN-i, Amanah Saham, and unit trust options that are genuinely accessible from Kuala Lumpur.
The practice draws participants from a range of professional and family backgrounds. Many come from households where both partners work, where parents have recently had children, or where one partner has recently changed employment and their financial picture has shifted accordingly. Others come simply because they have reached a point in life — often their mid-thirties or early forties — where they want to understand their position before making any larger decisions.
If you have found this page and are wondering whether a session would be relevant to your situation, the straightforward answer is that there is no financial situation that is too simple or too complex for a first conversation. The First Morning Review requires only a bank statement and thirty minutes of preparation beforehand.
